May 2023 proved to be a significant month for the furnishing industry, as nearly 800 new businesses emerged in this thriving sector. According to data obtained from Companies House, there were a total of 784 new company registrations related to various aspects of the furnishing industry.
In terms of retail, there were 190 new incorporations for furniture and carpet retailers. Additionally, furniture retail and lighting combined resulted in 136 new company registrations, while carpet and floor coverings retail filings accounted for 54 incorporations.
The manufacturing segment also experienced notable growth, with 180 new registrations. Furniture manufacturing, including the production of kitchen, office, shop, and other types of furniture like upholstery, constituted the majority with 132 new incorporations. Carpet manufacturing followed closely with 19 registrations, and there was a single wallpaper manufacturer registration. Filings for floor and wall coverings reached a total of 98.
Within specific niches of the furnishing industry, there were seven new company filings for mattress manufacturing and 21 registrations for the soft furnishings sector.
The wholesaler category witnessed 69 new incorporations for furniture, carpet, and lighting. Agents involved in the sale of furniture and household goods accounted for a significant number of filings, with 233 new registrations. Furthermore, 14 companies were established in the furniture repair sector.
Overall, the furnishing industry demonstrated remarkable growth and activity in May, as evidenced by the 784 new company incorporations. This surge in new businesses indicates a positive outlook for the sector and highlights the continued demand for furnishing products and services.
