In August 2024, the furnishing industry saw a significant surge in new business registrations, with a total of 546 incorporations recorded at Companies House. This includes 171 new furniture and carpet retailers, with furniture retail and lighting incorporations accounting for 117, and carpet and floor coverings retail filings contributing 54.

Manufacturer registrations also saw notable growth, with 94 new incorporations. This included 65 furniture manufacturers—covering categories such as kitchen, office, shop, and upholstery furniture—five carpet manufacturers, and 89 floor and wall covering companies. Additionally, there was one new wallpaper manufacturer registration.

The sector also saw 12 new companies registered for mattress manufacturing and 11 for soft furnishings. Wholesale of furniture, carpet, and lighting saw 59 new filings, while 112 incorporations were noted for agents involved in the sale of furniture and household goods. Finally, 21 new furniture repair businesses were registered.
