In April 2023, the furnishing industry saw an influx of over 600 new businesses registered with Companies House. The data on new company listings reveals that there were 145 new furniture and carpet retailer incorporations, and 142 new manufacturer registrations in the same period.

Of the new incorporations, furniture retail and lighting had 104 new incorporations, while carpet and floor coverings retail had 41. In addition, furniture manufacturer registrations, which included kitchen, office, shop, and upholstery furniture, totaled 100, while carpet manufacturer incorporations were at eight. Floor and wall coverings filings resulted in 93, and there was one wallpaper manufacturer registration.

It is also worth noting that the manufacture of mattresses saw 10 filings, while the soft furnishings sector had 23 registrations. Wholesalers of furniture, carpet, and lighting had 68 new incorporations, and filings for agents involved in the sale of furniture and household goods registered 142. Furniture repair filings resulted in 23.
